The basic common denominator of both Aspen and Augusta National Gold Course is that they are both special and unique in their own rights. There is no tournament with the history and flair like the annual Masters championship. Likewise Aspen has a rich history and has developed into the premier summer and winter resort in the Colorado Rockies.
One thing that was new to me at Augusta is the fact that the club will be unplayable in about a months time. The fairways will turn brown with dead rye grass. They will re-seed in September and start playing n October again. For Aspen the off times are in April/May and October/November. It seems off times just make a place that much more special.
In any case the gold course is extremely up and down. The 10th hole is much steeper downhill than TV will ever be able to show. To really appreciate watching the Masters on TV one has to see the course in real life. I hope that this visit to Augusta has not been my last.
