Can the closing date be changed once it has been set?
Sure. It all depends on the cooperation of the involved parties. You can not make the buyer or seller agree on a changed date buy you can always ask. If you need more time to obtain financing or complete inspections etc on the property it might make it necessary to move the closing date further out. If the seller does not agree on a later date you as the buyer have to decide how to deal with the situation. Maybe the seller will agree to a later loan commitment date without moving the closing date?
It is always important to try to understand the underlying motivation in a transaction. Why is a later closing date a problem for the seller and how can you accommodate the seller in a different area if he agrees to a later closing date? |
