My home has a high Radon level even though my neighbor had really low levels of Radon at his house, why?

This could have a multitude of reasons. The way a house is constructed or the mineral content in the soil just beneath the home. How is the home connected to the foundation, what type of foundation was used?  The influencing factures are too numerous to pint to one cause of elevated Radon level in close proximity to a low Radon level home.
