Radon is a natural gas, so it can't be that bad?

Radon is a naturally occurring gaseous by product of the radioactive decay of uranium. Lightning is also natural but a close encounter is not advisable. Same with Radon.
The EPA has set standards for in home radon levels that it deems unhealthy. As Radon is odorless and can’t be seen you will not know that you are exposed to this radioactive gas. Before you buy a house have it tested for Radon. If elevated levels are found during the inspection nothing is lost. Radon is easily mitigated and the fact that you found out during the inspection gives you the chance to negotiate with the seller about the costs.
Expect the costs for radon mitigation to be between $1000 and $3000 depending on size and construction method of the house. |
