Should I have a home inspection?
In almost all circumstances it is advisable to have a home inspected. From looking at a home with an untrained eye you will not be able to spot what a thorough inspection will reveal. In my experience a home inspection will pay for itself by finding enough shortcomings that the seller is willing to fix before the closing date. That way you will not need to repair these findings after you purchased the home.

Home inspections can be critical for finding major damage to a home. It might just raise enough flags to get other specialists involved. Signs of structural damage might be detectable and will demand further scrutiny by a structural engineer. Sloping floors or hidden cracks might be tell tale signs of soil problems that make it necessary to have geo-technical engineers have a closer look.

A home inspection is money well spent.
